Direct Access Scheme(DAS)

The Direct Access Scheme (DAS) is designed for riders who want to obtain a full motorcycle license and ride larger, more powerful bikes. This course is ideal for those looking to advance their riding skills and gain the qualifications needed to ride without restrictions. Saferider Scotland offers a comprehensive DAS program, covering A1, A2, and A licenses, tailored to your experience and goals.

Why choose the Direct Access Scheme?

Obtaining a full motorcycle license through the DAS course allows you to ride larger and more powerful motorcycles without restrictions. This is essential for riders who wish to explore advanced riding opportunities, commute on motorways, or simply enjoy the full range of motorcycling experiences. Completing the DAS course at Saferider Scotland equips you with the skills, confidence, and legal qualifications needed to ride any motorcycle.

Our Training Structure

Day 1

Assessment on a 125cc motorbike: 1 hour 50-minute road ride with various junctions, roundabouts, traffic, speed signs, in-town and rural riding, hill starts, angle starts. Includes slalom into figure 8.
Debrief: 15 minutes.
Training Area: 30 minutes for moving off, stopping, gear changing, emergency stop, figure of 8 and U turn.
Radio Brief: 10 minutes.

Day 2

Introduction to 600cc Motorbike: 10-15 minutes.
Training Area: 30 minutes for moving off and stopping, gear changing, figure of 8, slow control, and emergency stop.
Road Ride: 1-hour road ride on various road conditions and start Mod 1 training based on assessment.
Mod 1 Training: 30-40 minutes for manual handling, slalom, figure 8, and slow control.
Debrief: 10 minutes.

Day 3

Road Ride to MMA: 20 minutes.
Mod 1 Practice: 1-hour for running through the Mod 1 test and practicing faster exercises.
Mod 2 Road Ride: 1-hour for hill start, angle start, independent road riding or more Mod 1 practice.
Return Ride: 20 minutes.
Debrief: 10 minutes.

Day 4

Show Me, Tell Me Questions: 15 minutes.
Mod 1 Refresher: 1-hour.
Mod 2 Training: 1-hour and 25 minutes.
Debrief: 10 minutes.
Mod 1 Test: Shortly after training (depending on availability).

Day 5

Mod 2 Refresher: 1-hour 30 minutes road ride and 50 minutes road ride after 15 minutes on Show Me, Tell Me questions.
Debrief: 15 minutes.
Mod 2 Test: Test centers include Musselburgh, Kirkcaldy, Hamilton, or Shieldhall.

Step-by-Step Guidance

The training is broken down into manageable steps, starting with an introduction to the bike and controls, followed by practice in a safe, off-road environment, and culminating with on-road riding under close supervision.

Equipment & Bike Hire

We supply the motorcycles for your training. Our bikes are well-maintained and suited for DAS training, ensuring a comfortable and safe riding experience. Feel free to bring your own gear but we can also provide all the necessary equipment, including helmets, & jackets, and any other protective gear required for your safety.

Relax & Enjoy

Remember, the goal of the day is to build your confidence and skills in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. We aim to make your learning experience positive and stress-free.
